CMT Test Paddle

Mastitis can be a fatal, yet common ailment in cows. It is caused by an infection occouring in the udders. Draw foremilk from each quarter into the corresponding cup of testing paddle. Tilt the paddle to discharge excess milk until equal volumes remain in each cup. Add equal amount of CMT working solution. Gently rotate mixture in the horizontal position.

Results almost immediately. Thickening or gel formation indicates high somatic cell counts.

The milk test can be carried out in three simple steps.

Step 1: Discard the first three or four quirts of milk from each teat. Collect three squirts of milk from each teat into corresponding wells of the paddle.

Step 2: Add equal amount of the CMT Fluid to each well of the paddle and swirl and mix gentley for ten seconds

Step 3: Record the consistency of the milk after the 20 seconds, from no change to solid (don't worry about the colour). The stronger the reaction the higher the somatic cell count.
